Jon Core Bike Fit Exeter

When I created CORE Bike Fit I wanted to work with cyclists to Create Optimal Rider Experience, which inspired me to call the business CORE Bike Fit. Those four words are at the heart of everything I do and apply to riders of all abilities and needs.

Whether you are new to cycling and want to prevent injury or a pro looking for some extra watts I can help you Create your Optimal Rider Experience in my studio in Newton Abbot.

My passion in life for cycling began at a young age and my journey though life has taught me I am mechanically minded and good at helping people to get the best from themselves. So in 2022 I put all those things together and set up CORE Bike Fit. Bringing all my passions together I haven’t looked back since. There is something special about working with a rider and seeing them smile from ear to ear when they leave the studio.

“By utilising a blend of technology and rider interaction, coupled with my own experience my aim is to help as many riders as I can prevent injury, ride safer and achieve all of their cycling goals”

JON - CORE Bike Fit Owner

Why choose CORE Bike Fit?

1) My family background is shoes. I would have been the 5th generation of master Shoe Repairers if I hadn’t fallen in love with bikes. There is no coincidence I focus on the interaction between your feet, shoes, cleats and pedals. To me this is the single most overlooked and misunderstood interaction with the bike #focusonyourfeet

2) As an independent fitter I am not tied to using any product or to sell numbers of things a traditional bike shop might. I don’t suggest anything I personally wouldnt use myself. Everything has been chosen by me based on my research and experience.

3) My personal approach is to treat you the rider as the most important element of the Bike Fit. Working with you to understand your own goals and issues we can tailer your bike to fit you, not you fitting the bike.

4) Having struggled for years with tight shoulders when riding, I know how it feels to not be comfortable on the bike. I used to just grit my teeth and bare it thinking it had to be this way. Fortunately now at CORE Bike Fit I can help you remove discomfort from your position.

5) I have been trained by THE BEST trainer in the UK. My approach is different to bike shops as I use a range of technology along with my experience and more importantly your feedback to prove what we have done has made a positive impact on how you feel as an individual. There are no averages and rules of thumb used at CORE Bike Fit.

Why should I get a Bike Fit?

1) If you are thinking of buying a new bike? Then now is the time to get a bike fit and make sure you are buying a bike that will fit your biomechanics and suit what you want to achieve.

2) Are you cycling with discomfort or pain? Struggling with saddle sores, knee pain, lower back pain, shoulder pain or excess fatigue in your legs? I can work with you to help remove issues and reduce future issues occurring.

3) Whether you're a passionate cyclist craving that extra edge or someone striving to elevate their biking prowess, a bike fit has the potential to be a game-changer. By meticulously refining your bike's position and alignment, a bike fit unlocks a multitude of benefits. It maximizes your power transfer, fine-tunes your aerodynamics, and amplifies your overall efficiency on the saddle. The result? Prepare yourself for enhanced performance, increased stamina, and a significant reduction in fatigue. Get ready to experience a whole new level of cycling excellence.

4) If you're transitioning between cycling styles or have new goals in mind (like longer rides or racing), a bike fit can help you adapt your bike setup. CORE Bike Fit will ensure your bike fit supports your goals, maximising your potential in your chosen discipline

How long does a Bike Fit take?

Generally it takes 2-3 hours to complete your bike fit.

Is a Bike Fit worth the money?

A professional bike fit is absolutely worth it, to ensure that you're as comfortable as you can be when your riding, you lower the risk of injury and your position allows you to pedal as efficiently as possible.

For comfort and efficiency it is the best investment you can make for your future cycling. If you are looking for a Bike Fit near Exeter, I am based only a couple of miles away in my studio in Topsham.

How much does a Bike Fit Cost?

A Bike Fit starts from £250. There is no upper price limit as it’s up to you as the customer how much time you want to spend on your bike fit, what you want to achieve and also if you want to buy new shoes, pedals and invest in custom components. As will all things you get what you pay for and whilst I can can certainly make your ride more comfortable with a basic bike fit, if you are a time trial cyclist looking to shave milliseconds from your time, every adjustment matters and that takes time.

Everyone’s bike fit is custom and person to them so for some honest free advice give me a call!

Do you do Bike Fitting for Electric / E-Bike Bikes?

Whilst there is generally not as much adjustment available on an e-bike or electric bike, my mission is to help cyclists have a more comfortable and efficient riding experience.

Please contact me and we can discuss it further.

Booked in with Jon to get my TT bike comfortable. Went though all the aspects of what needed adjusting and why, and suggested a few changes and was able to let me try them out to see how it was. With a summer of events booked in with some full distance triathlons this will certainly give me a chance on surviving the long bike courses! Really recommend booking some time with Jon, as he is able to explain the benefits of changing even little things like clear position!! Best Bike Fit ever! Thanks Jon!!

Jon is great. Explained everything clearly and was non judgmental as I am not an elite cyclist but just trying to do a bit more. He did his best within the limitations of my wrong sized second hand bike, but the result is I am so much more comfortable, happy and I will have no hesitation in coming back when I take the plunge in finding a new bike that actually fits me. Once Ive survived my 2 triathlons. Highly recommend. Thank you.

Great bike fitting service from start to finish. Jon is very professional and superb at explaining the issues and improvements best suited to get the best fit possible. The step-by-step process is so welcome (starting with the feet and working up) compared to more ad hoc fits I've had in the past. Can't recommend highly enough.

Great attention to detail and consideration from what I wanted to achieve from my bike fit. I didn’t realise how poor my bike was set up until I saw Jon for my bike fit. He explained the process in detail and answered all of my many questions. He was able to fit a new shorter stem for me there and then so I could ride my bike straight afterwards in the new position. The before and after videos was an eye opener to me. I felt guilty for not having a bike fit sooner. Jon has certainly created my optimal riding experience. 100% recommend.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Bike fit starts at £250 for a Road Bike Fit

  • Generally a bike fit lasts between 2 to 3 hours. Sometimes we can get them done sooner but this depends on several factors

  • The kit you wear when cycling (this must include lycra shorts and a close fitting base layer or summer road jersey)

Your current shoes (if you do not already have cycling shoes please wait until your bike fit, as we will assess your feet and guide you to the most suitable pair of cycling shoes).

Your bicycle you want to be fitted to

  • Yes as part of a full bike fit I complete a full assessment of your feet and we look at what support and wedging is required

  • My bike fitting studio is based in Topsham. We are only a few mile from Exeter so if you are looking for a Bike Fit Exeter we are not that far. Your professional Bike Fit is only a short drive from Plymouth, Exeter, Barnstaple, Exmouth, Topsham, Dawlish, Paignton, Teignmouth, Torquay and Dartmoor.

  • Yes. We leave enough time at the end of the session to make minor adjustments to your bike, including saddle changes, stems and minor alterations to handlebars.

If your bike requires more work and parts that we do not stock and that need to be purchased I can book the bike in to have the work completed.

  • A good bike fit can take 2-3 hours of dedicated time. During your bike fitting session, the optimal cyclist position is determined. Finding this optimal cycling position is a time-consuming and labour-intensive process which can take a few hours. You are also paying for the experience of your bike fitter. Whilst there are apps that you can get for your phone to do a bike fit, there is no substitute for spending a few hours with your bike for a hands on bike fit.
