BIKE FIT DEVON

Welcome, and thank you for visiting. On this website, you'll discover a wealth of information about my services and what to expect when you come to me for a bike fitting in Topsham near Exeter in Devon.

My name is Jon Underhill, and I am a Professional Independent Bike Fitter and the creator of CORE Bike Fit. I founded CORE Bike Fit to assist cyclists of all levels in creating their own Optimal Rider Experience, tailored specifically to their needs. This mission inspired the name CORE Bike Fit, encapsulating the essence of my work.

Whether you are new to cycling and looking to prevent injury, have shifted your cycling goals, are recovering from an injury, or are a professional seeking to gain extra watts, I am here to help you create your Optimal Rider Experience. These principles are at the heart of everything I do, applying to riders of all abilities and needs.

“I want to help as many people as I can enjoy riding their bicycles.”

JON UNDERHILL - CORE Bike Fit Owner

Welcome to the studio

Why choose CORE Bike Fit?

1) My studio uses state of the art equipment to help us make informed decisions about your personal bike fit. Utilising video analysis, a Purely Custom Fit Jig, pedal analysis, saddle pressure mapping and foot pressure mapping systems to fully understand your individual needs.

2) My family background is shoes. I would have been the 5th generation of master Shoe Repairers if I hadn’t fallen in love with bikes. There is no coincidence I focus on the interaction between your feet, shoes, cleats and pedals. To me this is the single most overlooked and misunderstood interaction with any bicycle #focusonyourfeet

3) As an independent fitter I am not tied to using any product or to sell things as traditional bike shop might. I don’t suggest anything I personally would not use myself and everything has been chosen by me based on my research and experience using it.

4) My personal approach is to treat you the rider as the most important element of the Bike Fit. Working with you to understand your own goals and issues I tailor your bike to fit you, not you fitting the bike.

5) Having struggled for years with tight shoulders and neck pain when riding, I know how it feels to not be comfortable on the bike. I used to just grit my teeth and bare it thinking it had to be this way. Fortunately now at CORE Bike Fit Devon I can help you remove discomfort from your cycling position.

6) I have been trained by THE BEST trainer in the UK. My approach is different to bike shops as I use a range of technology along with my experience and more importantly your feedback to prove what we have done has made a positive impact on how you feel as an individual. There are no averages and rules of thumb used at CORE Bike Fit. The technology we employ is used to help us understand what potential there is to unlock in your cycling.

When should I get a Bike Fit?

1) Are you cycling with discomfort or pain? Struggling with saddle sores, knee pain, lower back pain, shoulder pain, numb hands or excess fatigue in your legs? I can work with you to help remove issues and reduce future issues occurring.

2) If you are thinking of buying a new bike? Then now is the time to get a bike fit. FIT FIRST and buy later. Nobody wants to have the conversation that your bike is the wrong size and making sure you get the right one will make the whole experience much more pleasurable and not hurt the bank account.

3) Whether you're a passionate cyclist craving that extra edge or someone striving to elevate their biking prowess, a bike fit has the potential to be a game-changer. By meticulously refining your bike's position and alignment, a bike fit unlocks a multitude of benefits. It maximizes your power transfer, fine-tunes your aerodynamics, and amplifies your overall efficiency on the saddle. The result? Prepare yourself for enhanced performance, increased stamina, and a significant reduction in fatigue. Get ready to experience a whole new level of cycling excellence.

4) If you're transitioning between cycling styles or have new goals in mind (like longer rides or racing), a bike fit can help you adapt your bike setup. CORE Bike Fit Devon will ensure your bike fit supports your goals, maximising your potential in your chosen discipline

Bike Fit Frequently Asked Questions

Bike Fit Devon
  • Bike fit starts at £250 for a Road Bike. On top of this we always suggest foot correction and activation in the form of G8 2620 Performance insole. These retail at £110 and are an additional cost on top of your fit. All cyclists need these to get the most from themselves and prevent injury and increase proprioceptive feedback. On top of this if you have a functional leg length imbalance you may require cleat shims which are charged in addition to your fit.

  • Generally a bike fit lasts between 2 to 3 hours. Sometimes we can get them done sooner but this depends on several factors during the fit.

  • The kit you wear when cycling (this must include lycra shorts and a close fitting base layer or summer road jersey)

Your current shoes (if you do not already have cycling shoes please wait until your bike fit, as we will assess your feet and guide you to the most suitable pair of cycling shoes).

Your bicycle you want to be fitted to

  • Yes as part of a full bike fit I complete a full assessment of your feet and we look at what support and wedging is required. We spend a large portion of time looking at feet

  • My bike fitting studio is based in Topsham near Exeter. Your professional Bike Fit is only a short drive from, Exmouth, Woodbury, Exeter, Paignton, Teignmouth, Torquay and Dartmoor.

  • Yes. We leave enough time at the end of the session to make minor adjustments to your bike, including saddle changes, stems and minor alterations to handlebars.

If your bike requires more work and parts that we do not stock and that need to be purchased I can book the bike in to have the work completed.

  • The main piece of equipment is a Purely Custom Bike Jig, This allows me to set your bikes geometry on the jig and make dynamic adjustments as you ride. It allows me to see your power output, cadence and fluidity along with being able to change crank length, saddle height, angle, handlebar reach and height. Added to this is our saddle pressure mapping system which helps understand pressure on the saddle and understand if changes we have made have worked. New for 2024 is our foot pressure analysis system. This we can add to your shoe to see what your foot is doing in your shoe as dou pedal. There is reason I say we #focusonyourfeet in your bike fit.
On top of all this we use video analysis software from four cameras so we can truly see the effects each area is having on your setup.
